Rotterdam Museum Pass
Rotterdam's main museum pass option is the Museumkaart – a Netherlands-wide card that covers 400+ museums nationally, including the Kunsthal, Maritime Museum, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, and more across the city. This page covers what the Museumkaart includes in Rotterdam, how its pricing compares to buying individual tickets, and when a Rotterdam City Card or individual bookings make more sense.
Everything in the pass
What's included
Museumkaart (full card)
The standard Museumkaart costs €75 for adults and is valid for 365 days at 400–500+ museums across the Netherlands. It's the best option if you plan repeat museum visits or are combining Rotterdam with Amsterdam, The Hague, or other Dutch cities.
Museumkaart (tourist version)
Tourists can buy a 31-day version at any participating museum ticket desk, capped at five visits. At €75, it covers the same venues as the full card but suits short trips with a clear itinerary. Note: it cannot be bought online without a Dutch address.
Rotterdam museums covered
Key Rotterdam venues on the Museumkaart network include the Kunsthal (regular price €19), Maritime Museum Rotterdam, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (main collection), Nieuwe Instituut, Huis Sonneveld, and the Netherlands Photomuseum – 20+ institutions in total.
Depot Boijmans – reduced, not free
Museumkaart holders pay €1 entry to the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen rather than the standard €20, but it is not included for free. Time-slot booking online is still mandatory regardless of which pass you hold.
What's not included
The Museumkaart does not cover Spido harbour cruises, the Euromast, or water taxis. FENIX Museum of Migration (opened May 2025) and Portlantis (opened March 2025) may not yet be on the Museumkaart network – check before visiting. The Museumkaart also does not include public transport.
Where to buy
Buy in person at the ticket desk of any participating Rotterdam museum – Kunsthal, Depot Boijmans, and the Maritime Museum all sell it. It cannot be purchased online without a Dutch bank account. No Rotterdam-specific museum pass with free entry exists outside the Museumkaart.
Common questions
FAQs
Is the Museumkaart worth it for a Rotterdam trip?
It depends on how many museums you plan to visit. At €75, you need roughly three to four paid venues to break even. The Kunsthal costs €19, Depot Boijmans €20, and Maritime Museum approximately €15–18 at the door – those three alone get you close. If you're also visiting Amsterdam or The Hague on the same trip, the card becomes very good value. For a pure Rotterdam weekend with one or two museum visits, individual tickets or the Rotterdam City Card at €15–€27.50 may work out cheaper.
What museums in Rotterdam does the Museumkaart include?
In Rotterdam, the Museumkaart covers the Kunsthal Rotterdam (regular price €19), the Maritime Museum Rotterdam, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen's main collection, Nieuwe Instituut, Huis Sonneveld, the Netherlands Photomuseum, and Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam, among others – 20+ venues in total. The Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen is partially covered: Museumkaart holders pay €1 entry rather than the standard €20, but it is not free. FENIX Museum of Migration and Portlantis, both opened in 2025, may not yet be on the network – verify before your visit.
Where can I buy the Museumkaart in Rotterdam?
You can buy the Museumkaart in person at the ticket desk of any participating museum in Rotterdam – the Kunsthal, Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, and Maritime Museum all sell it on the day. The card cannot be purchased online without a Dutch bank account and address, so tourists must buy at a physical counter. Bring a form of ID. Once purchased, it's valid immediately and gives free or heavily discounted entry to 400–500+ museums across the Netherlands for 31 days (tourist version) or 365 days (standard card).
