Legal
Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
This policy explains what personal data Travel Patterned collects, why, and what your rights are under GDPR. We have kept it as short and plain as possible — no legal boilerplate, just the facts.
Who we are
Travel Patterned is a travel content and affiliate platform based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Our website is at https://travelpatterned.com. We publish travel guides, flight search tools, and curated recommendations — we are not a travel agent and we do not sell or fulfil bookings ourselves.
For GDPR purposes, Travel Patterned is the data controller for any personal data described in this policy. If you have questions about how we handle your data, you can reach us at hello@travelpatterned.com.
Data we collect
We collect a minimal amount of personal data. The only personal data we actively collect is:
- Email address — when you sign up to receive launch or newsletter notifications via our signup form. Legal basis: consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking unsubscribe in any email, or by emailing us.
We do not collect your name, payment details, passport information, or any other personal information unless you contact us directly (in which case we retain that correspondence only for as long as needed to respond).
Analytics
We use Umami Analytics, which we self-host at analytics.travelpatterned.com. Umami is cookieless — it does not set any cookies, does not store IP addresses, and does not track individual users across sessions or sites. It records only aggregated, anonymous data: page views, referrers, approximate country, device type, and browser type.
Because Umami collects no personal data and uses no cookies, it falls within the legitimate interests exemption under Dutch telecommunications law (Telecommunicatiewet, Art. 11.7a) and GDPR Art. 6(1)(f). No consent banner is required for Umami, and it is always active regardless of your cookie preferences.
Affiliate links
Some links on Travel Patterned are affiliate links. If you click through and make a booking or purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Our affiliate relationships do not influence our editorial decisions — we only recommend services we believe are genuinely useful to travellers.
Affiliate partners whose links appear on the site include Booking.com B.V. (Netherlands) and GetYourGuide Deutschland GmbH (Germany). When you click one of these links and visit their site, you are subject to their own privacy policy. Travel Patterned does not load any scripts or tracking pixels from Booking.com or GetYourGuide — they are plain hyperlinks only.
Your rights
Under GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access — you can ask us what data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your data.
- Right to restriction — you can ask us to pause processing of your data.
- Right to data portability — you can ask for a copy of your data in a structured format.
- Right to object — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent — for any processing based on consent (email signups, marketing cookies), you can withdraw at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@travelpatterned.com. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
Data retention
We retain your email address for as long as you remain subscribed. When you unsubscribe, your address is deleted within 30 days. If you contact us directly, we retain that correspondence for as long as it takes to resolve your query, then delete it.
Analytics data collected by Umami is aggregated and does not relate to individuals. Aggregated statistics are retained for 24 months, after which older data is deleted.
