Where are the best areas to rent an apartment in Paris?

The strongest apartment areas in Paris are the Marais (3rd–4th), Le Marais fringes extending into the 11th, and the Canal Saint-Martin neighbourhood in the 10th. These areas have the best concentration of self-catering apartments in genuine residential buildings — not serviced residences designed purely for tourists. The 6th arrondissement (Saint-Germain) has beautiful apartments but at prices that rarely justify themselves for multi-night stays.

For longer stays, the 11th, 12th, and 13th arrondissements offer significantly more space at significantly lower rates than the central and Left Bank areas. These are genuine residential neighbourhoods where you wake up to a local boulangerie rather than a breakfast buffet queue — which is, for many travellers, the best possible start to a Paris day.

Is renting an apartment in Paris cheaper than staying in a hotel?

For couples staying four or more nights, apartments in the 11th or 10th are frequently competitive with mid-range Marais hotels. Paris restaurants and cafés are expensive enough that kitchen access genuinely changes the economics — even two home-cooked breakfasts offsets a meaningful portion of the rate difference.

What's typically included in a Paris apartment rental?

Fully serviced apartments include linen, towels, a kitchen (hob, oven, fridge, typically an espresso machine), and Wi-Fi. Most include weekly housekeeping for stays of five nights or more. Haussmann-era buildings often have lifts, though some older buildings in the Marais do not — check per listing.

Need to know: apartments in Paris

Are apartments cheaper than hotels in Paris?

For solo travellers, rarely. For couples staying four or more nights, often — particularly in the 11th and 10th arrondissements where apartment quality is high and hotel rates are competitive. For groups of three or four, a two-bedroom apartment in the Marais or 11th is almost always the better value proposition.

What's included in a serviced apartment in Paris?

Fully equipped kitchen, linen and towels, Wi-Fi, and utilities. Weekly housekeeping standard for stays of five nights or more. Some Marais properties include courtyard access or a private terrace — listed per property. Parking is rare and expensive in central arrondissements.

Do Paris apartments have a minimum stay?

Most require two to three nights. During Keukenhof-equivalent peak periods in Paris (April–May, September–October fashion weeks), some properties extend minimums to four nights. If your trip is a single night, a hotel is the more practical choice.
