Common questions
Which cities have direct flights to Madrid?
London (multiple airports), Paris CDG, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Rome, and Lisbon all have frequent direct services. Within Europe, most capitals have at least daily services. Transatlantic routes include New York, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Buenos Aires.
Are there budget airline options for flying to Madrid?
Yes — Ryanair, easyJet, and Vueling all operate into Barajas from across Europe. Ryanair also serves Madrid Adolfo Suárez as its primary hub in Spain. Routes from the UK, Germany, and France are particularly well-served by budget carriers.
Is there a direct train from Lisbon to Madrid?
Not currently — the high-speed rail link between Lisbon and Madrid has been in planning for years but isn't yet operational as of 2026. The quickest option between the two cities remains flying (around 1h 15m). Overnight buses are also available but take 7–8 hours.
When are flights to Madrid cheapest?
January through March sees the lowest fares from most European origins. November and early December (before Christmas) are also good value. Easter (Semana Santa) is the most expensive week of the year for flights to Madrid — book well in advance if travelling during this period.
