Common questions
FAQs
Is the Madrid City Card worth buying?
As a pure transport pass, yes – if you're making four or more metro or bus journeys a day, it pays for itself quickly. As a sightseeing pass, it's weaker than it looks: most major attractions (Prado, Reina Sofía, Royal Palace) are not included free, only discounted. If you mainly want access to top museums, the Paseo del Arte Card is a better spend. The City Card suits visitors who plan to cover a lot of ground across Madrid's neighbourhoods.
Does the Madrid City Card include the airport metro?
Yes. The airport metro supplement, which normally costs €3–4.50 on top of a standard ticket, is included in all Madrid City Card options. Zone A covers the metro line to Barajas (T1–T3 and T4). The 24-hour Airport Express bus is not included. Note: the card is sold in person only at city tourist offices, not at airport vending machines.
How does the Go City Madrid pass work and is it good value?
Go City Madrid lets you choose between an All-Inclusive day pass (1–5 days) or an Explorer Pass where you pick 3–7 attractions, valid for 30 days. The 2-day All-Inclusive at around €109 makes financial sense only if you're doing Royal Palace, Prado guided tour, Reina Sofía, Big Bus, and a day trip to Toledo – a packed itinerary. For a relaxed five-day trip, the individual math rarely works. Many attractions require advance reservation even with the pass.
