Where are the best areas to rent an apartment in Madrid?

The strongest apartment areas in Madrid are Malasaña, Chueca, and La Latina — each with distinct character but all within walking distance of the museum triangle. Malasaña apartments sit in 19th and early 20th century residential blocks with high ceilings, large windows, and access to the best independent coffee and food scene in the city. La Latina apartments give you immediate access to Sunday tapas culture and the Rastro market.

For longer stays, the Chamberí district northwest of Malasaña offers larger apartments at lower rates in a genuinely residential neighbourhood. Chamberí is one of the best examples of authentic Madrid — a middle-class barrio that hasn't been significantly touristified, with excellent local restaurants, a morning market, and tram and metro connections to everything.

Is renting an apartment in Madrid cheaper than staying in a hotel?

For couples staying three or more nights, apartments in Malasaña and La Latina are frequently competitive with mid-range hotels — and the self-catering option is particularly valuable in Madrid, where market and deli culture makes home cooking genuinely pleasurable. For groups of three or four, a two-bedroom apartment is almost always the better value proposition.

What's typically included in a Madrid apartment rental?

Fully serviced apartments include linen, towels, a kitchen (hob, oven, fridge), and Wi-Fi. Most include weekly housekeeping for stays of five nights or more. Some Malasaña properties include a rooftop terrace — particularly valuable in spring and autumn when the weather supports it.

Need to know: apartments in Madrid

Are apartments cheaper than hotels in Madrid?

Madrid's hotel prices are low enough by European standards that the differential is smaller than in Paris or London. For solo travellers, hotels often win on price. For couples and groups, apartments in Malasaña or Chueca offer better value from four nights upward.

What's included in a serviced apartment in Madrid?

Fully equipped kitchen, linen and towels, Wi-Fi, and utilities. Some properties include a welcome pack with local produce — particularly good in Madrid where the quality of local olive oil, jamón, and cheese is high. Parking is available in some outer barrio properties.

Do Madrid apartments have a minimum stay?

Most require two nights. During San Isidro (May) and major events, some properties extend minimums to three nights. Madrid apartment availability is generally good; single-night stays are better served by the city's excellent and affordable hotel stock.
