The Museumkaart
A national Dutch pass giving access to 400+ museums across the Netherlands for one year. Covers Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk, NEMO, Tropenmuseum, Foam, and more. Adult price: approximately €64.90.
The I Amsterdam City Card
A time-limited tourist pass covering Amsterdam museums and unlimited GVB public transport – trams, metro, and buses. Available in 24 to 120-hour options. Includes the Van Gogh Museum.
Transport included
The I Amsterdam City Card bundles unlimited travel on the GVB network. The Museumkaart does not include public transport.

Covered by the I Amsterdam City Card. Not included in the Museumkaart – budget approximately €22 separately if it's on your list.
Anne Frank House
Not included in either pass. Book a separate ticket in advance at annefrank.org – it sells out weeks ahead in peak season.

Is the Amsterdam museum pass worth it?
If you're visiting three or more museums, yes. The Museumkaart at €64.90 breaks even quickly: the Rijksmuseum (€22.50) and Stedelijk (€20) alone are €42.50 at the door. A third museum puts you ahead. For the I Amsterdam City Card, factor in transport – a GVB day ticket costs approximately €8–9, so a 48-hour card already saves you €16–18 before you visit a single museum.
Which pass is better for a short break?
The I Amsterdam City Card suits two- to three-day trips. It bundles museums with public transport and includes the Van Gogh Museum. The Museumkaart makes more sense for longer stays, multiple museum visits, or if you're also travelling to other Dutch cities – Haarlem, Leiden, and Utrecht are all covered.
